HYRE HARPER Co., a Service‑Disabled Veteran‑Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), is seeking Certified Tumor Registrars (CTR) to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cancer Registry Program. This role ensures accurate, timely, and complete oncology data abstraction in compliance with CoC, NAACCR, SEER, NPCR, AJCC (8th ed.), ICD‑O‑3, and Solid Tumor Rules.
What You’ll Do
- Perform casefinding and abstracting for malignant and reportable benign tumors using VA‑approved sources (pathology, imaging, clinical documentation).
- Code and stage cases using AJCC 8th edition, ICD‑O‑3, NAACCR v23/24+, and Solid Tumor Rules.

Enter and validate data in OncoTraX (current VA registry platform) and transition to KACI – NeuralFrame when implemented.
Note: Prior experience with these systems is not required; full training will be provided.
- Conduct follow‑up activities to maintain survival and outcome data per VA and CoC standards.
- Participate in quality control reviews, resolve edits, and support NCDB and state submissions.
- Collaborate with VA registry leadership to maintain CoC accreditation and meet reporting deadlines.
Quality Expectations
- HYRE HARPER and VA maintain high quality standards for all registry work.
- Initial Grace Period: As you learn VA systems and workflows, you will receive full support and training.
- Quality Review Process:
- 100% of your work will be reviewed until you achieve an average of 90%+ accuracy on quality metrics.
- Once achieved, review decreases to 50%, then 10% as consistency is demonstrated.
- Team Quality Monitoring: All team members undergo weekly quality evaluations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Work Environment
- 100% remote with secure, compliant workstation setup (or onsite/hybrid if required by VA).
- Training provided on OncoTraX and KACI – NeuralFrame.
- Assignments may involve multiple VA facilities and cancer program types.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- NCRA - Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification, (Previously -Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential (active and in good standing).
- 2+ years recent experience in cancer registry abstracting and casefinding.
- Proficiency with:
- AJCC 8th edition staging, ICD‑O‑3, NAACCR standards, Solid Tumor Rules, STORE manual.
- Reference tools such as SEER*Rx and Hematopoietic & Lymphoid Neoplasms DB.
- Strong understanding of CoC/NCDB and state/NPCR reporting requirements.
- Ability to meet productivity and quality benchmarks in a remote, metrics‑driven environment.
- HIPAA compliance and commitment to data security.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting CoC accreditation and VA or federal health systems.
- Familiarity with registry software (OncoTraX, KACI, METRIQ, CNExT, etc.) – training provided if not experienced.
- NCRA, AHIMA/HIM credentials (RHIT/RHIA) or related degree in HIM, Oncology, or Public Health.
Technical & Security
- Secure high‑speed internet and compliant remote workstation. Secure Laptop and dual monitors will be provided
- Ability to complete VA onboarding, background checks, and federal suitability requirements.

- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available).
