Job Description

Position Overview: The Salesforce Platform Owner will serve as the strategic technical owner and steward of the organization’s Salesforce platform, responsible for ensuring that the platform remains stable, secure, scalable, well-governed, and aligned with the needs of a global business. Salesforce is a mission-critical platform supporting daily sales, service, customer engagement, and order management operations. This role will have broad responsibility across Sales Cloud, CPQ, Service Cloud, and Experience Cloud, as well as the integrations that connect Salesforce to the broader enterprise technology environment.

The Location: This position is based in Tucson but can be remote anywhere in the US with ability to work across time zones for US.

The Company:

Hexagon is a global leader in digital reality solutions, combining sensor, software and autonomous technologies. We are putting data to work to boost efficiency, productivity, quality and safety across industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, public sector, and mobility applications. You’ll be joining over 17,000 people in 50 countries on the leading edge of your field.

This position is with Hexagon’s Mining division, a global technology leader, and solution provider for surface and underground mine challenges, with proven technologies for planning, operations, and safety.

Purpose of Position:

The Salesforce Platform Owner owns the architecture, stability and controlled evolution of a platform that our global sales, service and order management operations depend on daily. The role covers Sales Cloud, CPQ, Service Cloud and Experience Cloud, together with the integrations that connect Salesforce to our wider systems estate.

Platform stewardship is as much about stakeholder alignment, communication and sequencing as it is about technical design. Success requires building confidence in the roadmap while maintaining continuity for the teams that depend on the platform every day.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Platform Ownership and Stability
    · Own the overall architecture, performance and security of the Salesforce platform across all modules in use.
    · Maintain current documentation of system architecture, configuration, customizations and integrations, sufficient for another architect to operate the platform without you.
    · Ensure platform security and compliance with applicable data protection and privacy standards, working within the access and identity governance owned by corporate IT.
    · Maintain an accurate, current account of the state of the platform, and provide it on request. Changes made to production are recorded and discoverable without reliance on individual recall.

    Salesforce Release Management
    · Establish and operate a release lifecycle and change control process covering advance communication, validation, and post-change documentation.
    · Define and publish a written classification of change impact and the control required at each level.
    · Establish release gates appropriate to each class: e.g. business owner approval where a change alters a process or access, peer review and test evidence before promotion between environments, a scheduled announcement before release, and requester confirmation at closure.
    · Maintain a change log that is visible to management and stakeholders.
    · Execute environment refreshes based on a published calendar.

Balance Platform Improvement with Business Outcomes
    · Lead the continual improvement of the platform by identifying, prioritizing, and executing remediation initiatives that reduce technical debt, improve maintainability, and strengthen overall system performance and reliability.
    · Deliver business capabilities while advancing platform modernization, ensuring that short-term solutions align with longer-term architectural objectives wherever practical.
    · Assess proposed changes through both a business and technical lens, identifying opportunities to improve existing designs rather than simply extending known limitations.
    · Develop and communicate clear recommendation paths for significant platform decisions, including solution options, implementation effort, sequencing considerations, business impact, risk exposure, and the consequences of inaction.
    · Partner with business stakeholders to navigate trade-offs transparently, presenting both interim approaches and sustainable long-term solutions so informed decisions can be made with a clear understanding of cost, risk, and value.
    · Exercise sound judgment in balancing architectural excellence with business realities, making pragmatic decisions that move the platform toward its desired future state while delivering value today.

    Solution Architecture and Design
    · Work with business stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable, supportable solutions.
    · Design solutions in the context of our business processes and operational reality, considering how standard platform practice may be leveraged.
    · Operate within confirmed scope, raising well-formed challenges through the agreed governance route and supporting the decision reached.
    · Assess seasonal Salesforce releases and new platform capabilities for impact and opportunity.

    Integration and Delivery
    · Own integration delivery end to end, including remediation and completion of inherited or vendor-delivered components.
    · Provide and maintain a delivery date for planned work. Where a dependency blocks progress, escalate promptly with a named owner, required action and revised date, retaining ownership of the schedule impact.
    · Provide estimates with stated assumptions, and provide updates related to changes in assumptions and estimates as needed.
    · Participate in working sessions convened to review issues and align solutions.
    · Own the resolution of escalated operational disruption, including business impact and technical fault.

    Team Enablement and Knowledge Transfer
    · Mentor the Salesforce administrator and development team, setting clear standards and reviewing work.
    · Actively distribute capability rather than concentrate it, treating single-person dependencies as operational risks to be remediated.
    · Support administrators onboarding to the release lifecycle, including those working with configuration and product data.

Knowledge and Experience - Desired:

  • 7+ years in Salesforce solution architecture, technical product ownership or equivalent, with deep hands-on experience across Sales Cloud, CPQ, Service Cloud and Experience Cloud.
  • Demonstrable experience establishing change control or release governance in an organization that did not previously have it.
  • Experience owning a platform carrying inherited technical debt, and remediating it while the business continued to operate on it.
  • Integration architecture experience, including middleware. MuleSoft experience is a strong advantage.
  • Strong written communication. This role produces written assessments, proposals and status updates, and is assessed on them.
  • Experience presenting architectural recommendations, options and trade-offs directly to senior business stakeholders, and securing decisions from them.
  • Coordination with global and regional teams across time zones is required.

Knowledge and Experience - Nice to Have:

  • Salesforce Architect or Advanced Administrator certification is advantageous but not a substitute for the above.
  • MuleSoft experience is a strong advantage.

Travel:

  • Position will require travel up to 10% of the time - Must have a valid passport

Additional Information:

  • Must be US Based and able to work across multiple time zone
  • 100% Remote
  • Bonus potential
